Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd is the largest operator of swimming facilities in Hull. Our 4 swimming sites offer a combination of traditional indoor pools, an indoor leisure fun pool and an outdoor lido.
Swimming is a skill which can be learned at any time in your life. It is important to be confident with not only in pools, but also outdoors with the rise in popularity of open water swimming, as well as just going for a paddle in the sea when you're at the coast. Learning to swim keeps you healthy and active, but also safe.
Our swimming sites run courses and lessons which are available to help you learn to swim and gain more confidence, and also for those who wish to gain a lifeguard qualification or undertake health and safety training.
Pool safety rules
As an organisation, water safety is one of our priorities and the safety of our swimmers is paramount.
We have a series of adult to child ratios based upon the size of our pools which are in line with national pool operating guidelines. These rules exist for your safety and our pool sites strictly adhere to these rules. Ensure that you read and fully understand the ratios before attending to avoid any disappointment.
Cold water swimming at Albert Avenue Pools and Fitness
Throughout the winter months, the outdoor Lido at Albert Avenue Pools and Fitness is offering cold water swimming sessions. The Lido temperature will reduce to a minimum of 10 degrees celsius during these months.
These sessions are for people aged 18+ only and if you have any medical issues or concerns you must consult your GP before participating.
Read the guidance before participating in our cold water swim sessions –
Clothing
- as the temperature of the Lido will be cold, customers are encouraged to wear a swimming cap and use a wetsuit. Ensure that the wetsuit being used is one designed for swimming and not for other outdoor sports such as kayaking and windsurfing
- the wetsuit being used must be clean and not used for other outdoor activities to prevent any contamination
- chlorine levels in the Lido may affect the insulation and durability of your wetsuit so check with the manufacturer before using
Safety
- it is the responsibility of the swimmer to ensure that they are physically capable of participating in the session. You will be asked to complete a health check form before the session to confirm you have no medical conditions which may prevent you from participating
- the temperature of the water in the Lido may be a shock to the body, to prevent the risk of cold water shock, slowly enter the pool via the shallow end steps and allow your body to acclimatise to the water temperature
- we expect swimmers to be mindful of time spent in the water due to the temperature. Exit the water whenever you feel that you need to do so during the session
- after the session, upon exiting the pool, dry off indoors prior to showering. It is important to ensure that you dry off properly after your session to return your body temperature to normal before showering
- ensure you have a warm drink after your session
